General Aftercare Advice for Hair Extensions

  • Sunbeds are fine to use, but try wrapping a towel over the hair to prevent keratin becoming tacky or metal becoming hot and burning the scalp.

  • Avoid Chlorine and salt water.

  • Avoid high street shampoos that contain sulphate or silicone as it can cause the bonds to loosen.

  • Brush extensions throughout the day to prevent them from looking separated.

  • Apply a conditioner such as Argan Oil or spray to the ends daily to prolong the life of your extensions.

  • No harsh brushing, tugging or pulling when styling. When brushing try to use a detangling brush, or a brush made for hair extensions. These can always be purchased at your appointment if required.

  • When sleeping, try to secure hair in place with a loose bobble or tie, to prevent tangling and matting.

  • Gently separating your bonds daily can help prevent tangling. This can be done by carefully pulling the bonds apart.

  • Be careful if using rollers as they can pull on the extensions.

  • Avoid back coming as this can cause matting.

  • Avoid tanning lotions/oils coming into contact with the hair to prevent discolouration.

Aftercare When Washing

  • Do not wash for 48 hours after fitting of bonded extensions

  • Tilt head back under the shower hose, never wash hair forward, as the weight of wet hair extensions could put too much tension on the bond and cause it to loosen/fall out.

  • Fusion bond extensions should only be washed twice per week.

  • Micro ring extensions can be washed 3-4 times per week, which prevents the bond from slipping.

  • Shampoo should be applied and smoothed, never rubbed. Shampoo roots twice when washing, to ensure a through clean.

  • Do not apply conditioner to the bonds or rings, mid legths and ends only.

  • Never rub or twist the hair when washing, as it could tangle.

  • Apply a sulphate free, leave-in conditioner to mid lengths and ends to prolong the life of the extensions.

  • Blow dry and on cool setting.

Maintenance Appointments

When wearing human hair extensions it is essential to understand the importance of keeping up to date with maintenance appointments, as this will ensure that your hair stays healthy and your hair extensions look as good as new throughout the time you are wearing them.

There are a number of different reasons why maintenance appointments are very important. The number one reason is so that the fitter can assess your hair and monitor its progress. By looking at your hair and scalp regularly, we can check that your natural hair is continuing to grow as you would expect. Your fitter can also check for any matting or tangles and have them rectified before any problems arise. Maintenance appointments also ensure that your hair extensions can be trimmed, leaving them looking healthy and full throughout the time you are wearing them. By seeing your fitter every 4-6 weeks you will also have regular opportunities to ask any questions you may have.

Failure to keep your maintenance appointments may result in our hair extensions not lasting as long as you had hoped, or your hair extensions becoming tangled if they have not been looked after correctly.

Maintenance appointments are essential in the aftercare of your hair extensions, however this does not mean that you should leave all of the responsibility up to your fitter and neglect your hair extensions in between appointments. You should always follow the aftercare advice provided above.

* Micro rings/Nano rings and mini tubes will need repositioning every 4-6 weeks depending on a persons hair growth. The rings/tubes can be reused a couple of times before replacing, which will prolong the life of the hair.

* Fusion bonds will need maintenance every 4-6 weeks to check the bonds are intact or to replace any lost strands. All bonds will need to be replaced every 3-4 months, however the hair can be re-used, depending on how well you maintain it.
